The Parenting Diaries

Dear Pristine,

Happy birthday, my love. You’ve turned 5 and five is such a big number right? That’s like, what, all fingers in your right hand! Way to go!

I’m writing like you’ll be able to read this and soon, hopefully, you can. I am so lucky to be your mom. You made parenting a little bit easier for me. You listen to anything I say, never throw tantrums and don’t hijack our pockets whenever we go shopping or pass by Toys R Us. You never make demands and roll on the floor crying if we don’t meet them. The only time you complain is when I smother you with kisses and suck out all the smell of your face. Hah, such a sweet girl you are.

I want to let you know that I love every bit of moment I spend with you. Those moments do not compare to the lavish parties, fun outings and long drinking sprees I had been invited to and declined. I’d rather spend time with you in my arms, in our humble bed with any book you’d like me to read you to. I’d even put voices and actions no matter how I look stupid by doing so. I only care for those little laughs from you.  You smile and laugh and giggle and I feel I can live for another hundred years!

I hope you have a great time on your birthday today, honey. You mean the world to me, and to your dad, and to the people who love you. You deserve a great birthday because you’re such a good girl not only on your birthday or Christmas but everyday of the year!

I am glad you liked your present (the Snow White dress). I know you’ve been wanting that, in like, forever but I am amazed everytime I ask you what gift you would like for your birthday and Christmas and you say, “Whatever you give mom, I know it’s nice.”

I must have done something good in this lifetime to deserve such a good child like you.
