still at home and happy about it

mommy thoughts November 16th, 2008

Just like I planned yesterday, I stayed at home today. Pristine is still having fever and clingy to me but having a pretty good appetite and vibrant spirit.

We watched Mamma Mia the movie for at least five times today! The movie is just the best, the most entertaining movie for her right now. It beats all the Disney cartoons she knows. Pristine loves music, singing and dancing so this movie is a big hit in our house.

Being at home and having some quiet time for myself whenever she sleeps, I thought, so this is how stay at home moms would feel everyday. I felt fulfilled and at peace without having to wake up in the morning to dress up for work, bid my daughter goodbye and think of her when she is sick. I love what I am feeling today. I am a little bit tired caring for a sick child but I don’t mind, this is what moms do naturally. She needs me and I love the feeling that she needs me.

No mom could get too much kisses and hugs in a day, right?

I’m glad to stay at home

family worries November 15th, 2008

This has not happened before: more than three days of continuous fever. We went to the doctor last night because Pristine had been having fever since last Thursday and though we give her Paracetamol, the fever would go down and then rise again. She is coughing but I am more worried about the fever that’s not going away. I am not sleeping well, taking care of her at night, giving medicine and water.

I am definitely talking to their teacher soon because I think it is the pool that’s making her sick. The temperatures here have cooled and although the pool has warm water, the moment their wet bodies come out of the water, the cold will surely affect them. Not to mention going inside the airconditioned building again.

I did not go to work today because how could I? My mom is here to take care of my daughter but I know and feel deep in my heart that I have to be here too. Since I don’t have much to do at work, I called to ask for a break. I felt so fulfilled at the end of the day to be with her - to read her books, be there whenever she needs me, do everything for her, things that normally someone does for me. Being at home today was a so rewarding to me. I am tired but I am also happy. Pristine clearly appreciates it and thanked me for not going to work.

I might ask for another day of break for tomorrow.

Totful Thursday#2: Twins

totful thursday November 13th, 2008

Right now, babies are a very hot topic in our house.

Pristine: Mom I want 2 babies!
Me: You mean twins? Oh, mom wants to have twins too.
Pristine: What shall we name them?
Me: Hmm, it depends if they’re both boys or both girls or a boy and a girl.
Pristine: (eyes twinkling) I want a boy and a girl!
(She has Angelina Jolie tendencies)
Me: Oh, ok, so what are their names?
Pristine: ARIELLE and FLOUNDER!!

Any interesting tot talk in your home today?

No NaBloPoMo in this blog

blogging November 12th, 2008

I signed up for NaBloPoMo on my other blog so I’ve been blogging everyday there but here, I can’t believe I have totally neglected posting for days. I have no reason why I did that when I usually write everyday.

Anyway, I’m so busy at work right now. Tomorrow will be the last work day of the week so I am so looking forward to that. I am tired, been waking up as early as 4 am to tend to Pristine. The sudden coughing at dawn has come back again and it makes me so confused because at other times of the day, she is perfectly fine.

I suspect we have little dust bunnies who comes out at 4 am to tickle her throat?

Totful Thursday: Afternoon dirty talk

totful thursday November 6th, 2008

Pristine and I had pairing lessons today. Not exactly formal lessons but talking about things that go together: spoon and fork, cup and saucer, the like. She was so enthusiastic that we even moved on to beach and sand, papa and mama, shirt and jeans, left slipper and right slipper. I like these conversations with her, it’s almost endless!

Then when she apparently ran out of ideas, there was a long pause and with big, round eyes, just like when Edison discovered the electricity, she said: PEE and POO!! They’re a pair, aren’t they? They’re married together!

ARE THEY?

*****

I’ve decided to be really attentive of my daughter and our conversations and write them down in paper, post in my blog on Thursdays. There’s no existing meme like Totful Thursday, I just made that up.

If you’re having some interesting tot conversations at home, please feel free to share in the comment and I’ll go and visit!. Tot conversations are the best!

Pristine with my friend’s new baby. After I took the photo, she asked me, “Mom, why can’t we take the baby home? I want to borrow her for a while.”

Sunday Scribblings - Scandalous

Sunday Scribblings November 2nd, 2008

sundayscribblings

I’ve never been involved in a scandal. At least as far as I know, we’ll never know what people talk behind our backs. But I can recall one scandalous moment some years back when my daughter was just a year old.

My daughter and I took a four hour international flight to spend Christmas at my parent’s house. The hubby was busy with work and instead of sulking at the idea that he will not be travelling with us or spending Christmas with us, I thanked him for giving me the chance to travel. I didn’t need any unnecessary emotional baggage to add to the ‘real’ baggage I had.

The flight was smooth and painless. My daughter was still nursing that time and during the course of that flight, I was breastfeeding her. I only got to sleep for two hours that previous night so I was really sleepy. The lunch I just had pushed me harder off to dream land.

Some time later….

I felt a little bit cold. I woke up and found my baby asleep in my arms, finished with her feeding, looking so content and peaceful. I also found out that I had been half-naked from the waist up with my left breast desirably exposed for everyone to see!

At some point during my sleep, the nursing cover fell down and no one bothered to pick it up and prevented me from exposing myself.

Humiliating and scandalous I know, but thank God I am not a movie star and there were no paparazzis aboard. (doesn’t make it less embarassing of course!!)

This writing exercise is fueled by the writing prompt “scandalous” at Sunday Scribblings.
