What’s wrong with sleeping dads?
Pristine had an asthma attack at 3 am this morning. The moment she coughed and wheezed, I woke up from my sleep in a split second.
We sleep in the same room and her bed is attached to ours. She sleeps on my side so I can wake up at night to check her blanket, shirt, position - she could go up and hit her head on the bed head board or go down and hang her feet down at the lower edge of her bed - the nightly acrobatic possibilities are endless.
I sat her up and gave her water then the inhaler so she can sleep back. I had been making some rustling noises enough to wake a normal sleeping person. But my husband? He did not even move a muscle. He slept like a log.
The next morning, I asked him if he knew what happened that dawn. Of course, he had no idea!
How can men sleep through these kind of kid-related commotions? Not that I hate him for that, believe me, I have come to accept the fact that moms and dad’s night body mechanisms are just different; that moms are more alert and sensitive to every smell, sound and movement around them, even with their eyes closed! However, I am just amazed at how at the shutting of their eyes, their ears and all of the senses completely shuts down, too.

hi Gray, how about buying your own portable nebulizer? if she has frequence attacks that would be a great help to you and the whole family. it saves you the stress of emergency trip to the clinic during her attacks anytime of the day. hope your baby is ok now.
I know what you mean! My guy never wakes up for anything. And he can have a big fight and then go to sleep in seconds while I am up and thinking and fretting all night long. sigh. They are total aliens.
I just came from Marketing class, we talked about how the marketers have finally recognized that it takes a different strategy to sell to a man than to a woman. Next slide, our professor showed us the anatomy of a woman’s brain, then that of a man’s. Contents where represented in polygons. In small red letters outside the diagram and below the man’s brain was a note about this. It was written there that you would need a microscope just to see the speck representing the man waking up at night to tend to a baby cry. hehehe ^^
come to think of it, now i understand why my sister is such a light sleeper. I often get irritated when she wakes up because the TV i’m watching is too loud or whatever. hehehe
I know how you feel. MY daughter still sleeps with us and on the rare times that she is sick I am the one that is awake all night long while he sleeps thru the puking and everything. Men, what can you do?!?!? LOL
