obento challenge
mommy thoughts February 18th, 2008Running out of recipe ideas for our lunch boxes, I came across a site that features obento recipes. Sorry, in Japanese text only but you can still enjoy seeing the photos.
I feel so sorry for my two wards, my husband and my daughter. Even though I make menu plans for the week, I still feel that it is not enough. I am depriving them of a hearty lunch they should have — that a Japanese wife should typically prepare. But the typical ‘Japanese’ wife in our house is working full time 6 days a week and almost always settle cooking menus that don’t take more than 30 minutes.

When we were in Japan, I would cook several dishes and store them in the freezer in smaller portions then include them in the lunchbox. By lunch time, the food has thawed naturally and ready to eat. I researched and rotated recipes every week. Fun times. Now, I only have one day break and I am getting caught up with so many things to do. But I will be starting to revise my home schedule to make way for good healthy and yummy recipes for our lunch boxes soon (as I miss cooking and eating Japanese food myself)!

I love those but they too time consuming to make! I usually just go out and buy them! LOL!

Wow, that looks so yummy!! One of my greatest challenges, as well, is the meal planning - you are not alone! Sometimes, I’ll be in a good groove, like for a month, of healthy meals planned ahead. But I’m in a bad slump right now. I need to get back on track… bon appetite
