The US primaries have ended with presidential bidder Hilary Rodham Clinton bowing out of her candidacy in favor of big challenger Barrack Obama. My husband and I were discussing as to what voting system the US follows. Do the citizens individually cast a vote or only a party elects a president (as in Japan)?

He said if the people were casting their votes, as in the case of the Philippines, then the people should not complain (”no right to complain” were his words) later if they feel their needs are not satisfied or that they feel at a later time that they chose the wrong person.

Oh, hold it right there.

Isn’t this the same with marriage? Individuals choose their respective mates at the height of intense feelings and beautiful promises. Later on, wives and husbands complain and curse each other like the plague - just google ridiculous marriage jokes, you’ll see. People around them comment,

“Did you not choose your spouse yourself? Then you should  not complain if everything is sour because you chose that man/woman!”

I think this comment is unfair because ugly behaviors/traits did not show up at the time of the marriage nor election. If someone talks to me about their marital woes, I lend an ear and hold my criticisms. As same as if people complains about the government system or the governing person, his/her predicament should be heard and taken action to, not blamed for casting a vote on the wrong person.
