I should get a tattoo on my forehead

… saying, “I’m the mom!”

We went to the hospital last night because Pristine’s recurring fever was very high. It has been a roller coaster ride since Wednesday night with fever shooting up and going down again. No cough or cold, just fever but we wanted to make sure what’s wrong.

While I carried her, (I didn’t realize she is this heavy now, I almost broke my back) people were staring at us. One woman in front of me finally asked, “From where is that child (nationality)?”

I answered back, “Japan. She’s Japanese”.

Then I knew this was coming: “Your employer is Japanese?”

I could not count the times I was asked if my own daughter is my ward, and if I am someone’s maid because Pristine do not look like me although 50% of her genes is mine (supposedly!).

look alikes not

So what do you think, should I bleach my skin? or make my eyes smaller?

That must be really frustrating, hurtful even.

Personally, I think she does look a lot like you.

I think it is very rude! You know, my sister adopted two children from Korea. Obviously she did not look like them, and people did say dumb stuff like “Is your husband Korean?
Pristine is, in all that ways that count, yours and she does look like her mommy!

My response would be succinct: “None ya!” (As in “none of your business.”)

that was a mean thing to say! She looks every inch like you! (it’s the first time ever I saw you too, I just found your blog by visiting other blogs - aka via Momisodes - and she had the same problem)My kids don’t look like me either, I don’t look like a mother (I kinda carry a teenage air and my looks are in the early 20s than the real near 30s) but I developed a killer-eye so whenever I feel them trying to approach me with stupid questions, I give them “the eye” and they’re instantly frozen :D (not always, but it generally works. people don’t like grumpy attitudes, I don’t like stupid people, so it’s all even).

How’s your treasure, btw? no more fever?

  6. Hi kpriss,

I’ll be practicing “the eye” to ward off the mean people or I could use a makeover to get rid of the nanny image they see! ;-)

When I first clicked on your blog and saw the adorable photo of your daughter and her friend, I thought she looked like you….and sure enough scrolling down to this photo, I do think she looks like you. She is an adorable little girl and she’s just as beautiful as her mom! We have a couple in our church - he is Pakistani and she is Phillipino - they have two little girls who are a beautiful combination of them both, just as your daughter is of you and your hubby!

    Hi,
I’m just curious what your nationality is? Your daughter is adorable and you are very pretty. Especially with that last comment… what language is it?
