whatever happened to good customer service
life teaser April 3rd, 2008I had been going to the gym since last Sunday in the desperate attempt to be back in shape until my brother’s wedding in August. Everyone will be there, the whole family, some neighbors, who I bet are all waiting to see how big I am already and some friends back home who are definitely wondering about the same thing. Well, too bad for them folks because this mommy has decided to take matters in her own hands!
Day two at the gym. After a workout, I walked to the sauna room. There I met one male fitness instructor that works there and we chatted. He asked where I worked, how many years in Dubai, the usual blah questions when two foreigners meet here.
”Are you married? Any kids?”
When I told him that I do have a kid, he asked me my age. I know I shouldn’t have asked him in a teasing kind of way, “how old do you think I am?” In the previous years, everyone would give me a number waaay beyond my real age.
After a grin while he rubbed his chin, “35!” came the answer.
BANG!!
I could have pushed him into the pool (the one without water in it). I am only 31 (ok 32 this year, but still!!). When I was waiting for an apology….but he never hesitated to add: “but you are FAT so I thought…”
Double bang.
“Where’s the manager?” I know, I should have reported him for that rude behavior but since brutal honestly is still honesty and not rudeness. I left him at that. Next time, I’ll drown him in the pool.

Oh wow, I would have throttled him for sure, and then seethed for the rest of the day!
