So funny that I saw this post now since we spent a good hour after our family dinner tonight talking about what my siblings and their spouses would, or would not do, when it comes to finding out the sex of their child.

DH and I did not find out the sex with either of our boys...even though our youngest displayed himself...we hurried and closed our eyes. Honestly, I think everyone should let it be a surprise!

I had an ultrasound with #1Son. But he was born in 1987 and the technology was not as advanced as today. The technicians were absolutely prohibited from telling the parents what sex they believed the baby to be.

With #2, I had amnio due to some family history. When they called and asked if I wanted to know the sex, I said, "You bet I do! I've got hand-me-downs from my oldest and two nephews. I need to know if I should start buying pink." The nurse laughed and said, "No need for that!" That evening, the baby had a name: Matthew because it means "gift from God" and he was an unexpected and unplanned treasure.

My question is posted. Stop by!

I have six kids and have always opted to try and find out. With some of them, I've known what I was having anyway. :)

As long as there is an option to know, I will be taking full advantage. I have had friends that decided to let it be a surprise, and it was so hard knowing what to buy as a baby gift. Their babies were stuck wearing unisex clothes for the first year or so. Knowing makes it so much easier to prepare, and it's still a surprise when you find out at the ultrasound.

I knew what both of my babies would be. We're going to start TTC #3 soon, and I'm counting on another girl b/c I have had a named picked out for a loooong time. Boy names are major arguments with us. :P

My youngest child was born in 1981 and he was the only one I had a sonogram with. I did however know in my heart what my other babies were.
Our daughter-in-law always finds out what the babies are going to be. After two boys we were all thrilled to know a little girl was on the way. (She'll be two in 2 weeks) She was born to a complete pink nursery and she had a bigger wardrobe than Gymboree!
