Aloha Friday #17

Today is Good Friday. If you are observing it, what do you do on this day? If not, can you share your Easter fun?
I am born and raised Catholic (though not much of a church goer). When I was living with my parents, we’d observe Good Friday by watching movies adapted from the Bible and just be silent inside the house. No laughing, loud music or lavish food. Older children in the family fast on this day, not completely though, drinking only water and eating light snacks all throughout the day.

I am an American married to a wonderful Australian man. We recently celebrated our first anniversary. We are living in Australia with plans to return to settle down in the U.S. My husband tells me that it is an Australian tradition to eat fish and chips on Good Friday. So, that is how we are going to observe Good Friday this year.

At our house Easter is celebrated by attending church, Easter ham dinner, some fun activities for the little one ones and reading the Easter story together.
Easter is split between my family and my husband’s family. We have brunch with my folks, lunch with his folks. The boys still participate in hunts (though they pretend it’s childish) and love collecting the coins inside (we put money in the eggs as opposed to candy).
We’re usually pretty pooped by the end of the day, but it’s a fun time for all.

I just stay home with my family every Good Friday. We also abstain from eating meat and try to do some reflection.
When I was younger we were not allowed to eat meat on Good Friday, my mom made dinner of some kind of fish…..but I DID NOT EAT FISH at the time so i ate something else or nothing else.
Today I really don’t have any tradition that we follow on Good Friday.

Well this year my daughter’s birthday has falled on Good Friday. So we will actually be celebrating more her birthday than Good Friday. We are having dinner and cake and all that fun. Tomorrow will be Easter Egg dying. Sunday will be brunch, church, easter egg hunt and fun at both grandparents house! Stop by my blog and see the question today as well as some fun contests! Thanks!
It’s mostly just a regular day for us - I work and the girls have school. For Easter, we’ll go to church in the morning and then up to my inlaws in the afternoon.
