headbutted
pristine October 30th, 2008Pristine came home with a very big swelling in her left eye like Sylvester Stallone in Rocky. Her teacher informed me that the kids were playing in the gym and one of her classmates ran like a wild horse head first into her eyes.
The swelling has slightly subsided and she doesn’t complain of any pain but it is very unsightly. It is painful to look at as well as funny.
People stare at us and other small kids sometimes laugh. Pristine doesn’t mind the stares or the ridicule. She is confident as she is, shut eye or not. However, my husband is making a big deal about it. He wants to put an eye mask on her, to cover the swelled up eye when we go out. I guess he is just used to receiving praises like how adorable the little chick is, he is overwhelmed with the stares and very bothered with the laughs.
As for me, I think putting an eye mask (when the doctor didn’t even suggest it) is giving our daughter the idea that she has something she has to be embarrassed about. The shut eye was not her fault, it was an accident and she has gotten over it, accepted it without issues. And she doesn’t like to put an eye mask saying, “I don’t want to be a pirate, mom!”
Hear that, dad?
