Would you mind having twins?

My answer is a resounding NO. Having twins has been my dream eversince. I know it’s tough but it’s doable.

headbutted

pristine October 30th, 2008

Pristine came home with a very big swelling in her left eye like Sylvester Stallone in Rocky.  Her teacher informed me that the kids were playing in the gym and one of her classmates ran like a wild horse head first into her eyes.

The swelling has slightly subsided and she doesn’t complain of any pain but it is very unsightly. It is painful to look at as well as funny.

People stare at us and other small kids sometimes laugh. Pristine doesn’t mind the stares or the ridicule. She is confident as she is, shut eye or not. However, my husband is making a big deal about it. He wants to put an eye mask on her, to cover the swelled up eye when we go out. I guess he is just used to receiving praises like how adorable the little chick is, he is overwhelmed with the stares and very bothered with the laughs.

As for me, I think putting an eye mask (when the doctor didn’t even suggest it) is giving our daughter the idea that she has something she has to be embarrassed about. The shut eye was not her fault, it was an accident and she has gotten over it, accepted it without issues. And she doesn’t like to put an eye mask saying, “I don’t want to be a pirate, mom!”

Hear that, dad?

Happy birthday mama

family October 27th, 2008

My mom celebrated her 57th birthday a couple of days ago and I am glad she is with me on her special day. Though we were together for her birthday last year too, my mom and I were separated for 10 long years - not estranged, we were living in two different countries and missed out on each other’s birthdays for 10 consecutive years.

* the photo is a little bit Halloweenish with darkness and all but I thought I’d not expose my mom’s face too much *

M and I gave her flowers and we bought a cake. We had a quiet celebration at home…who am I kidding about quiet celebration? We have a kid at home! We sang happy birthday, turned off the lights and let her blow the candles on her cake. There were only two candles and Pristine asked vehemently why she’s older than her grandma at 5!

Anyway, I thank God for my mother. I have lots to say for the many things she has done but can be summed up in one sentence:

Where will I be without her?

running around the neighborhood

fitness October 26th, 2008

I woke up at 5:15 am today to start my new routine. I figured out that exercising after work is difficult for me. I didn’t renew my gym membership after coming back from my summer vacation because the fees have gone up unreasonably. I thought, I would just jog around and do stretches/weights at home.

My fitness routine escalated downhill from that decision. Who am I kidding? Once I come home, the kid awaits, the kitchen calls for attention and mom is always there for a chit-chat. No exercise done. Then I’ll feel guilty leaving Pristine to my mom again so I could jog around in the neighborhood. Pristine on the other hand, won’t let me go.

So I changed my schedule. Sleep early and wake up early, sleep with my trainers on so when I wake up in the morning, all I need to do is wear my socks and shoes and out before 5:30 am. I ran/brisk walked around a vacant parking space near our apartment building. Thirty minutes later, I welcomed sunrise with a new energy boost.

I hope this works. It was my first day out today and I am glad I was able to do it. I really feel much better when I am physically active than just living a sedentary lifestyle, eating chips.

I hope to do this again tomorrow.

Do/did you keep a diary?

By diary I meant, a hand written one, not blogs. Yes, I kept a diary before I started blogging. My oldest diary dates back to when I was 13.

the twinsie conspiracy

mommy thoughts October 23rd, 2008

Brooke Mueller and Charlie Sheen are the new member of Hollywood parents who will be having twins. Happy for them, yes, but isn’t this getting a bit suspicious? There must be fertility drugs mixed in the waters of LA!

Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lopez, and others I have enumerated in my other blog.

IVF, which is quite common these days must be the common factor. I swear this is not just a coincidence! Everyone is having twins, I’d be more surprised if a celeb gives birth to only one.

counting minutes to lunch

a day in the life October 21st, 2008

It’s 5 minutes to 1 pm, make that five minutes before lunch break. For the first time in a long time, I am strongly anticipating lunch. I am going to grab my lunch box with eagerness and vitality.

I am hungry.

I did not have any snacks today, unlike the other days when I have a biscuit or two, dried fruits or (gasp) chocolate! And the banana I had for breakfast is not helping. I’m looking forward to lunch.

So, this is how it really feels like.

swimming again, I hope no flu after this

family worries October 20th, 2008

Today Pristine went to her swimming class again. My mother was worried this morning and asking me to call Pristine’s teacher and ask her not to let Pristine into the water because she just recovered from a very bad flu, accompanied by the usual cough and asthma.

What a tough job being a teacher. Telling a toddler no to swimming will be like telling a normal person to stop breathing. It is next to impossible. I told my mother that I’m not going to subject my daughter’s teacher to that torture and Pristine is feeling well already. I asked her directly and she replied, “no problem mom!”

How can I ignore that enthusiasm. The girl loves the water.
