no more sad animes for her

Gray Cee on May-19-2008

In the effort to reacquaint the babe with her father’s native tongue (Japanese), my husband bought a DVD of a Japanese anime he love. Last night, we saw the movie, Doraemon: Nobita’s Dinosaur in Japanese audio with English subtitles (the English subtitle was for my mom).

Although I don’t know up to what extent she understands the language she hears, Pristine seemed to follow through the story as she was laughing on some scenes and displaying different facial expressions. I did not finish the movie until the end because I have to do something in the kitchen.

The next thing I heard was her cries. She was sobbing and holding her father close, fighting away tears from her small face. M’s shirt was wet with her tears already. The movie had a sad ending with the character parting with his bestfriend, pet dinosaur. There were lots of sayonara (goodbye) accompanied with tears in the scene. Pristine was moved to tears, it was a pity to her so sad!

I guess our worry that she forgot all about the language were erased. Looks like she still understands, although with the lack of practice (because she is going to an English school for a year now), she can’t speak it well. We asked her the story and she narrated it to us correctly, in between sobs so I think her Japanese language skill is just resting in one corner of her brain waiting for some stimulation.
