sleep

The key to parenting a new born while maintaining your precious sanity is to sleep while the baby sleeps. But just how many moms can actually do that? How many moms can sleep without thinking of the dirty diapers that missed the elusive garbage basket and now sprawling in the floor curled up with erratically taped ends, the bottles that need to be washed and sterilized, the dainty baby clothes waiting to be ironed and folded, or at least your own stomach growling, asking for feeding, too?

My darling daughter has just turned 4 years old a couple of months ago. The sleepless nights is long history in our house except maybe for the time that she gets sick. I am (finally) free from waking up every possible minute/hour to check her diapers, feed her or grab a food for myself late at night after breastfeeding. I am enjoying night after night of undisturbed sleep, well, almost, except for the times I have to check her blanket and sleeping position/location as she sometimes go all the way up her bed and bang her head on the headboard.

4 years ago, I would be happy to get two hours of uninterrupted sleep but still, in the mornings, I didn’t sleep when she does. I had lots of things to do and life was always on a deadline. Right now, except when I find the urgent need to blog, I can manage to get at least 7 hours of sleep. Then why am I always yawning at the office?

This writing exercise is fueled by the writing prompt “sleep” at Sunday Scribblings.
