to babe or not to babe

Gray Cee on Jan-21-2008

A good friend had been asking me lately if I am opting for the one-child-policy of sorts. P has turned four and there’s no baby coming, at least not in another 9 months!

She said, “Have it soonest. Otherwise, u might feel so comfy on the one-child status quo and would not want to change a thing anymore!”

She makes sense and I actually believe her. I pondered on my situation and yes, it is very true that postponing pregnancy longer would only make me and my husband love the single-child status: more time for each other (as the first child grows up and gradually becomes more independent), more sleeping time (no more diaper changes at night), more savings (no need to buy diapers and baby stuffs), more time for me to focus on my career.

See? The reasons are endless but the most apparent of all is that, we will just become too accustomed to living with one child that it’s difficult (sometimes scary) to imagine living with more.

Funny thing is, so goes for families with many children. They get accustomed to having 2 or three children that one more additional child will not make a difference. They always think that they could somehow get through with another one.

Honestly, I am wishing I could have baby number two without being pregnant - -  you know, like Harry Potter being delivered into the doorstep by Professor Dumbledore. Although I don’t hate pregnancy, I also don’t love it 100%. I dread the fact that no matter what I’ll do, I will be feeling and weighing like a whale again, then have excruciating ligament pains and perhaps have another labor from hell. Yeah, that’s it! The labor is freaking me out. I labored (in the truest sense of this word) for 34 hours before my darling daughter finally saw the world. It was worth it but I can’t deny that it was painful and it is still very fresh in my mind up to this very minute.
